Spring has arrived and so has swimsuit season. We know that buying new swimsuits may be a touchy subject for some folks. They dread the idea of heading into a store’s dressing room and desperately trying on designs that they’d rather leave suspended on clothes hangers. As such, our washer repair techs wanted to share a few swimwear care tips that will prolong the time between those reluctant dashes to the mall:
Do read the swimsuit’s label before putting it near a washing machine, detergent, color-safe bleach or wash basin filled with water. Why? Some fabrics used to manufacture swimwear are machine washable and others are not. So, it pays to take notice of the difference beforehand.
Don’t simply peel off wet swimwear and toss it in with the rest of the dirty laundry. The moisture will likely cause laundry basket mold and odors to occur. Plus, any chemicals that may have come into contact with the suit could leech on to the surrounding clothes and cause discoloration or fabric deterioration.
Do take the time to thoroughly rinse one and two-piece suits after each use to remove some of the suntan lotion and other chemical residues that we mentioned earlier. In most instances, cool or room temperature water is best for rinsing. However, greasy residue (e.g. tanning oils) may require a bit of hot water.
Don’t neglect to check the washing machine’s manual for signs of a swimwear settings. Some of the modern-day models have rinse, drain and extra high spin cycles that are tailor-made for rinsing out or completely laundering today’s swimsuits. Whirlpool is just one company who incorporates such features in their front-loaders.
